2010-2011 Season Past Lecture:

Trees and Suburban Houses: Roots and foundations – the underground conflict

with James Urban, FASLA

As we struggle to preserve Ottawa’s urban forest a new challenge has arisen to the planting of trees in developing areas of the city. Has marine clay soil left behind by Lake Champlain created a conflict between the stability of house foundations and the trees that grace our streets?

James Urban is a Landscape Architect who has worked for the past thirty years on the challenges of planting and maintaining the urban forest. James shared many of the strategies that he has developed to support healthy tree populations in urban conditions.
